whats the advantages and disadvantages of tcp-ip application layer compair to the cobination of presntation and session layer in osi layer?
i mean is tcp-ip fast going down the layers since application layer does most of the work done in one layer than sending it through three differnt layers in osi model
and in the other hand osi model layers presentation and session layers are more reliable and acurate than the equalnt aplication layer in tcp-ip?
(sorry about my english not my native language)

This was very helpful to me in understanding the last layer of the OSI model. I had read short meanings of what the layer does, but it meant nothing to me. After reading this site, I definately understand now what handling network services actually means.

Thanks so much!

Thanks for the insight about networking, I agree with a previous comment you should write a book seriously.

I have Microsoft networking trainign next week and will use all this as a reference.

Thanks for the overview on the application layer. You should write college text books with your style of explaining things, because the one I have looks and reads like someone from the Geek squad wrote it.
